Frequently asked questions
- Are my images uploaded when I convert them?
- No. Each image is decoded and re-encoded by your browser's canvas on your device; the files never leave it.
- Which formats can I convert from and to?
- You can add JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, AVIF and HEIC/HEIF (iPhone) images and convert them to PNG, JPG or WebP. For JPG and WebP a quality slider goes from 10% to 100% (90% by default). You can also shrink the images by a maximum width (640, 1280, 1920, 2560 px or your own value) or by 25, 50 or 75%; the aspect ratio is kept and the setting applies to every image in the batch. Raster images (JPG, PNG, WebP…) are never enlarged; an SVG is drawn at the size you pick, so a max width of 1024 px or 200% / 400% turns a small SVG icon into a sharp, large PNG. Animated GIF and WebP images are converted as a single still image of their first frame.
- Is there a file size limit?
- Each image can be up to 50 MB, and the converted image can be at most 16,384 px on a side and about 64 megapixels (use the resize setting for bigger photos). Larger files and unsupported types are rejected with a message. You can add several images at once; "Convert & Download All" saves them in a single ZIP file (one image downloads on its own).
- What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPG?
- JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels become white. PNG and WebP keep them transparent.
- Does the converted image keep EXIF data such as the GPS location?
- No. Re-encoding through the canvas writes only the pixels, so camera details and location are not copied to the new file.
- Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?
- Yes. HEIC and HEIF photos are decoded in your browser and come out upright as JPG, PNG or WebP. The decoder (about 3 MB) is downloaded only the first time you add a HEIC photo, so the first one can take a few seconds. TIFF files are still rejected; export them as JPG from your photo app first.
