Frequently asked questions
- Which security type should I pick?
- Pick WPA for WPA and WPA2 networks, which covers most home and shop routers, including WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. Pick WEP only for very old routers and None for an open network. On a WPA3-only network some phones may not join from the code, so switch the router to WPA2/WPA3 mode or type the password.
- Does it work with a hidden network?
- Yes. Tick Hidden network and the code tells the phone to look for the network even though it is not broadcast. The network name must match exactly, including upper and lower case.
- Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?
- No. The code is drawn in your browser, so the network name and password are not sent to a server or stored. Keep in mind that anyone who scans the code can read the password, so print it for a guest network.
- How do guests scan it on iPhone or Android?
- On iPhone, open the Camera app, point it at the code and tap the Wi-Fi prompt. On Android, use the Camera app or Google Lens, or the QR icon in the Wi-Fi settings of Android 10 and later. No extra app is needed.
- Can I print it for my café or shop?
- Yes. Download it as PNG, SVG or PDF, add a caption such as the network name and stick it on the counter or table. The code holds the password, so print a new one when you change it.
